The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walhalla man, who was wanted on several charges in Anderson County, near Seneca yesterday afternoon.
36 year old Matthew Vinson Leopard of 842 Robinhood Drive in Walhalla was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 6:24pm. The incident report lists Leopard’s address as 110 D Street in Anderson.
Deputies with the warrants division and the narcotics division of the Sheriff’s Office were notified via a tip that Leopard could be showing up at a business near Seneca yesterday. Leopard arrived at a business location on North Radio Station Road around 2pm and was taken into custody by deputies.
Leopard told the deputies that he had a gun and drugs in his vehicle, a red Chevy Blazer, and gave consent to search. A quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana was found in the vehicle as well as a handgun under the front seat. The pistol reportedly came back stolen when checked.
Leopard was placed under arrest and booked into the Detention Center on a Temporary Custody Order until warrants could be obtained, which they were this morning. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office warrants charge Leopard with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol. Leopard was also issued two traffic tickets on charges of Driving Under Suspension and Simple Possession of Marijuana.
Leopard remains at the Oconee County Detention Center after a bond hearing this morning. Leopard’s total surety bond amount is $26,272.50 on all the Oconee County charges. A hold has been placed on Leopard by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office as well as by the department of Probation, Parole, and Pardons, according to the Detention Center.
The total amount of methamphetamine discovered by deputies was 3.5 grams, which has a street value of $350.00.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.
