(Walhalla, SC)————————————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a West Union woman yesterday on charges of Attempted Murder.
38 year old April Dawn Townsend of Smarty Jones Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 5:25pm.
Deputies responded to an address on Cassidy Bridge Road after dispatch received a call around 3:45pm of a domestic situation. Upon arrival, officers were met at the door by Townsend who told deputies that she had to release the demons and that she was the higher power. Officers then observed a victim, a family member of Townsend’s, lying on the floor with plastic bags over her head and not responsive. A further check revealed that the victim was not breathing nor had a pulse.
An officer began CPR on the victim which turned out to be successful as paramedics and other law enforcement units made their way to the scene. Townsend was then placed under arrest for attempted murder. Evidence was collected as an investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division continued to work at the scene.
The victim was transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital and later transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital to receive further treatment.
According to the arrest warrant obtained today, Townsend is accused of restraining the victim and placing several plastic bags around her head, restricting the victim’s airflow until the victim was unconscious, had quit breathing and had no heartbeat.
Townsend remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center this afternoon.
