Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Woman on Two Counts of Unlawful Neglect of a Child

(Walhalla, SC)—————————————-The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca woman yesterday on two outstanding warrants on charges of Unlawful Neglect of a Child.

23 year old Tiffany Rae Barfield was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 8:47am after being transported from the Franklin County, GA Detention Center.

Arrest warrants list Barfield’s address as Samuel Drive while the Detention Center lists her address as Hillside Lane.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to Oconee Memorial Hospital in the early afternoon hours of November 23rd, 2016 in regards to a child neglect complaint. An individual brought two young male children, ages 3 and 6 months old, to the hospital. The individual could not find the mother of the children but could not keep the children as well due to a work schedule. The individual who brought the children to the hospital knew the mother, who is Barfield.

The Department of Social Services arrived at the hospital and met with the Deputy while a second Deputy went to Barfield’s residence in an attempt to locate Barfield but could not find her. The children were placed into Emergency Protective Custody and placed into a safe environment after received both received treatment for a minor illness and were released from the hospital.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office and based upon the information provided as a result of the investigation, Sgt. Tim Rice, the Child/Elder Abuse investigator, obtained two arrest warrants against Barfield.

Barfield was released from the Detention Center yesterday on a combined $50,000 personal recognizance bond.
