Oconee County has
implemented a Reverse 911 Community Notification System.
The Reverse 911 system allows the 911 Communications
Center to rapidly notify residents and businesses by
telephone.
In the event of an
emergency, an operator in the 911 Center can identify
the affected neighborhood or region of the County and
record a message that describes the situation and
recommends the protective actions residents should take.
The Reverse 911 system will automatically call out to
all listed telephone numbers within that geographic area
and deliver the recorded message. If phone lines are
busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers a
predetermined number of times to make contact. If an
answering machine picks up the call, the emergency
message will be left on the machine.
Reverse 911 allows you
to receive emergency notifications that affect your home
very quickly. You don't have to purchase any new
equipment and you'll only be notified of emergencies
that affect the area your home is located in.
Oconee County's Reverse
911 System utilizes the BellSouth telephone directory to
determine which telephone numbers to call when
activated. If your telephone number is "unlisted" or
"unpublished", we do not have it. Additionally, if you
use a telephone carrier other than BellSouth, use a
cellular telephone, or have a VOIP (Voice Over IP such
as Vonage) system, we do not have your telephone number.
You may add your telephone numbers by completing the
form below. We will manually add your contact information to
our database.
