Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Files Attempted Murder Charge against Walhalla Man

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has filed an Attempted Murder charge against a Walhalla man in relation to a Sunday evening shooting on Rock Crusher Road.

The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking the public’s help today in locating 34 year old Kristopher Lamar Jenkins of Walhalla, who has been charged in the shooting.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to the incident location yesterday where they discovered a man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle. First aid was administered to the victim by the application of a tourniquet. The victim was transported to the hospital by paramedics to continue to receive treatment for his injury.

Deputies began the process of collecting evidence and an Investigator from the Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified. Deputies were also notified that Kristopher was in operation of a stolen vehicle, a black Honda, which was taken from the city of Seneca.

According to the arrest warrant, Jenkins pointed a gun at the victim’s chest and made threats to shoot him. A struggle ensued and the gun fired, with a bullet striking the victim in the ankle.

Earlier this morning, a Uniform Patrol Bureau deputy saw the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Wells Highway. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, however, the driver of the Honda did not pull over and a pursuit began, which concluded near the area of S. Depot Street and Fairfield Drive in Seneca.

Deputies and officers from the Seneca Police Department looked for the driver of the vehicle, who ran on foot. However, they could not locate the driver. Evidence from the vehicle was gathered at the scene.
