(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will be spreading some Christmas cheer to the citizens it serves over the next few days, thanks to a gift from the Isaiah 40:31 Foundation.
Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw met with the Chairman of the Foundation yesterday and received a cash gift totaling $5,000.00.
“The gentlemen who is making this gift wants to remain anonymous but he wanted to make this donation in order to allow the Sheriff’s Office to help some of citizens in the County, as well as, to continue to build relationships with those citizens,” according to Sheriff Crenshaw. “He is a supporter of law enforcement and has seen some negative stories and publicity that our profession has received, as well, and he wants to pay it forward and give back due to how blessed he has been in his life.”
Deputies will be handing out $50.00 in cash to citizens and families they have had contact with previously that need help. Deputies may be approaching citizens and people randomly over the next couple of days in areas where they may be patrolling, for example, and handing out $50.00 in cash.
“Our hope is that those who receive this money will use it to buy groceries, Christmas gifts or to pay bills,” says Sheriff Crenshaw. “At $50.00 apiece, we have enough money to help 100 people. We also wanted people to know that we were doing this so they would not be concerned if they saw a law enforcement officer approaching them and think they were in trouble.”
According to the King James Version of the Bible, Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
