Judicial Services

The Judicial Services Bureau is comprised of the Courthouse Unit and the Detention Center Units of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.  Working together, the Courthouse and Detention Center Units facilitate the housing of inmates, transportation of inmates to and from court appearances, and inter-facility transfer of inmates when required.  The Judicial Services Bureau is comprised of Class 1 law enforcement officers, Class 2 Detention Deputies, Class 3 limited duty deputies, and Class 1/2 Law Enforcement Correctional Officers ("LECO's") which are dually certified deputies who are able to work both law enforcement AND detention duty assignments.

Courthouse Unit

The Courthouse Unit is primarily housed at the Oconee County Courthouse located in downtown Walhalla, SC.  Comprised of 5 full-time deputies, 2 part-time deputies, and 4 court bailiffs, the Courthouse Unit is responsible for the physical security of the Oconee County Courthouse, safety and protection of the judicial staff and jury members, as well as the care and transportation of inmates when they are required to appear in court for trials and other judicial processes.

Detention Center Unit

The Detention Center Unit is primarily responsible for the care and security of inmates housed at the Oconee County Detention Center in Walhalla, SC.  Detention Deputies work diligently each and every day to ensure that inmates are treated fairly while still maintaining order and security inside the Detention Center facility.

From providing 3 meals a day to inmates, to dealing with unruly and disruptive inmates, Detention Deputies work hard each and every day to ensure that the inmates in their care are housed in a safe and secure environment, as well as cared for by providing access to medical care, spiritual resources (as requested), and inmate visitation and attorney consultations.  Additionally, the Detention Center provides other resources for inmates including various recreational programs, counseling services, substance abuse treatment options (in cooperation with the Oconee Addiction and Recovery Services - OARS programs), spiritual counseling and care, and many more programs!
