Community Service Overview
Trust between law enforcement and the public is essential. The Community Service Unit exists to forge relationships between the community, businesses, government, other State and County agencies and local law enforcement through education and interaction with members of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
We provide a wide variety of outreach and community engagement programs, such as the Citizens Police Academy, our Speakers Bureau, College Internship Program, and many outreach programs in partnership with numerous local organizations!
In partnership with the School District of Oconee County, we also travel to many of our public schools in the county for Career Days and other educational events. Each year, we teach children about the Sheriff's Office, what our jobs are, the tools we use every day, and most importantly help children understand that we are here to help and protect them from danger! We also have visited several classes over the years to deliver curriculum-specific demonstrations and lessons on how the skills they are learning in school are applied in real-world scenarios and careers, such as forensics, investigations, and more!
