(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------An investigation into allegations of inappropriate touching of a juvenile, which occurred late last year, has led investigators with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office to file a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – 3rd Degree against a West Union man.
29 year old Efren Contreras, Jr. of Brc Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 1:08pm yesterday by a deputy from the Warrants Division. At this time, Contreras remains in custody at the Detention Center on a $15,000 surety bond.
A School Resource Officer was notified on March 26th of this year of allegations made against Contreras, Jr. in regards to an incident that occurred on December 31st, 2020 at an address in Walhalla. The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
As the investigation continued, and evidence was gathered in the case, it was determined that Contreras, Jr. did inappropriately touch a juvenile on or around New Year’s Eve of last year. The charge obtained in the arrest warrant involves only one juvenile.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and that of the victim in the Criminal Sexual Conduct case, the Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, in any way, identify the victim in thus case.
