Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Detains 17 Year Old on Attempted Murder Charge



(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office detained a 17 year old yesterday on multiple charges, including a charge of Attempted Murder.


The 17 year old has also been charged with one count each of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Possession of a Firearm with the Serial Number Removed or Obliterated, Discharging a Firearm into a Vehicle and Possession of Marijuana. The teenager is currently detained at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $90,615.00 surety bond.


A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division began an investigation, after speaking with the victim, in regards to a reported shooting incident that occurred on February 15th, according to the arrest warrants. The teenage victim stated that the 17 year old had shot out of the vehicle that he was in, at the vehicle the victim was driving, on Jenkins Bridge Road near Highway 123 and Westminster, striking it at least three times, according to an arrest warrant.


The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. Based upon the evidence that was collected, Investigators detained the 17 year old, who was booked into the Detention Center around 9:36pm yesterday on a Temporary Custody Order until the arrest warrants were obtained today.


According to Investigators, a juvenile who is charged with a Class A, B or C felony can be tried as an adult.


The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. The Sheriff’s Office will not, at this time, release the name, mugshot or any information that could potentially identify the detainee. Also, any information that could potentially identify the teenage victim will also not be released by the Sheriff’s Office.


If the 17 year old is released, he will have to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of bond.
