Inmate Death Reported at the Oconee County Detention Center

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------An inmate death occurred today at the Oconee County Detention Center.


The E-911/Communications Center was notified today by a Detention Deputy of a medical call related to an inmate around 2:38pm. Deputies as well as paramedics and other public safety officers responded to the scene. Life saving measures was initiated in an attempt to save the inmates life.


Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis was called to the Detention Center and an Investigator from the Criminal Investigations Bureau has also responded to the scene.


The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was also requested by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office to respond to the Detention Center as it is standard procedure for the Sheriff’s Office to request SLED to investigate any death inside of the Detention Center.


The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oconee County Coroner’s Office are conducting an inquiry into the inmate’s death, which remains under investigation at this time.
