Oconee County Man Arrested on Arson – 2nd Degree Charge

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------An Oconee County man remains in jail this morning, on a combined $103,470 surety bond, after his arrest yesterday on charges of Arson – 2nd Degree.

 

32 year old Brandon Kyle Stancil, who has listed addresses in Walhalla and West Union, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:46pm Tuesday.  Stancil was issued citations, in relation to the same incident, on charges of Malicious Injury to Personal Property, Breach of Peace and Public Disorderly Conduct.

 

Late yesterday morning, a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on Rose Drive, near West Union, in reference to a report of a disturbance.  The Deputy was advised by dispatch that a man, identified as Stancil, was reportedly causing a disturbance on scene, was armed with a knife and was attempting to set a house on fire. 

 

When Deputies arrived on scene, they were notified that a room in the residence was on fire.  Equipment and personnel from Oconee County Emergency Services was also dispatched to the scene.

 

As the investigation continued, Deputies made contact with Stancil on Burns Mill Road near Safety Harbor Road.  Deputies placed Stancil in handcuffs and secured a knife that was on Stancil’s person.

 

Stancil was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center and booked into jail.  Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, charges were filed against Stancil, including the charge of Arson – 2nd Degree.

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  Stancil will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released from jail.
