Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Announces First Drug Round-Up of 2025

(Walhalla, SC)---------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today the first drug round-up of 2025. The Sheriff’s Office began the operation with a meeting and briefing at 8:30am yesterday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office obtained 35 arrest warrants on 23 persons. The arrest warrants were obtained based on controlled purchases of narcotics by undercover operatives working at the direction of the Sheriff’s Office. The narcotics purchased during the controlled buys were Fentanyl, Methamphetamine and Prescription Medication. Arrest warrants for Criminal Conspiracy were also obtained against two subjects. Five additional arrest warrants were also obtained today for narcotics seized during arrests made yesterday.
As of Noon today, eleven persons have been arrested so far or were already in jail at the Oconee County Detention Center and have been served their arrest warrants in direct relation to the drug round-up. The names of those eleven persons are as follows:
Melissa Kim Smith
Bottoms Drive, West Union, SC
41 years old
Distribution of Controlled Substance (Suboxone) – 1 count
Smith was arrested on September 17th, 2025 and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on a General Sessions Bench Warrant. Smith received a $5,000 surety bond on the drug charge and remains in jail at this time.
Christie Marie Keith
O’Henry’s Lane, Seneca, SC
57 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
Keith was arrested on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 1:03pm. Keith was also served an arrest warrant from the Seneca Police Department. At this time, Keith remains in jail. Keith received a $5,000 surety bond on the OCSO charge and a $50,000 personal recognizance bond on the Seneca PD charge.
Timothy Dewayne Cox
Friendship Road, Seneca, SC
60 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
Cox was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:45pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. Cox received a $5,000 surety bond. Cox was released from jail today after posting bond.
Markus V Walters
Goddard Avenue, Seneca, SC
54 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 2 counts
Walters was arrested and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on September 14th, 2025 by the Seneca Police Department. At this time, Walters remains in jail. Walters was given a combined $100,000 surety bond on the two OCSO charges.
John Francis Roberts, II
Edna Drive, Westminster, SC
48 years old
Possession of Methamphetamine – 2 counts
Roberts was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:06pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. At this time, Roberts remains in jail on a combined $10,000 surety bond.
Steve Allen Broach
Padgett Street, Seneca, SC
51 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
Broach was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 7:54pm on Wednesday, October 1st. During an investigation conducted by Narcotics Agents, additional quantities of narcotics and a firearm were discovered inside of Broach’s house. Subsequently, Broach has been charged additionally with one count each of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime Possession of Fentanyl and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Suboxone). At this time, Broach remains in jail pending a bond hearing.
Charles Johnathan Sanders
Crestwood Drive, Salem, SC
37 years old
Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Buprenorphine) – 1 count
Sanders was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:03pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. At this time, Sanders remains in jail on a $10,000 surety bond.
Steven Ray Watkins
Davis Hill Road, West Union
53 years old
Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine – 1 count
Watkins was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:22pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. At this time, Watkins remains in jail on a $25,000 surety bond.
Steven Lowride McAlister
Poplar Springs Road, Westminster, SC
43 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
McAlister was arrested and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:41pm on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. During his arrest, a quantity of Fentanyl was discovered on McAlister’s person. McAlister has been charged additionally with one count of Possession of Fentanyl. At this time, McAlister remains in jail. McAlister was given a $25,000 surety bond on the Distribution of Methamphetamine charge. Bond has not been sent on the charge of Possession of Fentanyl.
Matthew Dewayne Trotter
Twin Springs Road, Seneca, SC
50 years old
Criminal Conspiracy – 1 count
Trotter was booked into jail on September 5th, 2024 by the US Marshals Service. At this time, Trotter remains in jail and bond has not been set on the Criminal Conspiracy charge.
James Daniel Miller
Knox Road, Seneca, SC
43 years old
Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
Miller was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 11:50am on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. At this time, Miller remains in jail on a $25,000 surety bond.
The following persons, who have also been charged in the round-up, are currently incarcerated outside of Oconee County, according to Narcotics Agents. The following persons will be served their warrants at a later time:

Roach is currently incarcerated in the Pickens County Detention Center

Distribution of Methamphetamine – 1 count
Foote II is currently incarcerated in a South Carolina Department of Corrections Facility
