(Walhalla, SC)-----------------------------------A Tamassee man remains in jail today, pending a bond hearing, after his arrest overnight on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine.

36 year old Joseph Lee Pinard, of Slick Road, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center this morning at around 2:06am.  Pinard has also been charged with one count of Furnishing Contraband into a Detention Facility.

Late Tuesday evening, a Deputy assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau, while on routine patrol on Sandifer Boulevard near Seneca, observed a gray 2006 Hyundai Tucson with an expired registration sticker.  Further investigation revealed that the tag on the vehicle was registered to a 2006 Kia Optima.

The Deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which pulled into a parking lot of a business on Sandifer Boulevard.  The Deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Pinard.  The Deputy received permission from Pinard to search the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle, a quantity of Methamphetamine was located.  Pinard was placed under arrest and transported to jail.  During the booking process inside the jail, an additional quantity of Methamphetamine was located by a Detention Deputy that belonged in Pinard.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, and after consultation with a Judge, two arrest warrants were obtained against Pinard.

The amount of Methamphetamine seized during the traffic stop was approximately 12.75 grams, while the amount of Methamphetamine seized from the Detention Center, which belonged to Pinard, was approximately 1.53 grams.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
