Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Two in Utica Mill Hill Shooting Investigation
(UPDATE ON AUGUST 27TH - 18 year old Nevada Josiah Normia Jones has been arrested by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center).
(Walhalla, SC)-----------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests today in connection with a Monday evening shooting on the Utica Mill Hill.
18 year old Javon Gaylin O’Neal Leonard of Seneca was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 3:45pm this afternoon.
Also arrested today as a result of the investigation is 18 year old Damajion Sincere Patton of Seneca. Patton was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 6:10pm this evening.
Both Leonard and Patton have been charged by an Investigator with one count each of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging a Firearm into a Vehicle. At this time, both Leonard and Patton remain in jail pending a bond hearing.
Both Leonard and Patton were charged in the shooting of a 17 year old Monday evening on Goddard Avenue near Sirrine Street. According to arrest warrants, a 9mm handgun was used and the victim was shot in the back of the head.
The victim was transported to the hospital by helicopter Monday evening. The teenager remains hospitalized, at this time.
According to Investigators, the victim was driving a vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Dart, when another vehicle, a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, approached from behind. Shots were fired from the Hyundai into the victim’s vehicle. The victim was struck by the gunfire.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Investigators would also like to thank the Seneca Police Department for their help this week in this investigation.
Investigators have also obtained arrest warrants today against a third person in the investigation. 18 year old Nevada Jaziah Normia Jones of Seneca has also been charged with one count each of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging a Firearm into a Vehicle. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in the search for Jones.
