(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------An Easley man remains in jail today after his arrest this week on drug trafficking and property crime charges.
34 year old Russell James Brown, Jr, of W. 4th Avenue, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 7:49am Wednesday on a Temporary Custody Order. The Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants against Brown, Jr. on charges of Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Grand Larceny.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the Easley Police Department and the Greenville City Police Department have placed holds on Brown, Jr. as well.
Brown, Jr. was given a $45,000 surety bond on the Trafficking in Methamphetamine charge. Bond has yet to be set on the Grand Larceny charge.
The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation Tuesday evening after the E-911/Communications Center received a call from a man who was pursuing a motorcycle that was reportedly stolen. Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to J.P. Stephens Road, near Seneca, and met with two Clemson City Police Officers who were on scene near a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
The Deputies were notified that the driver of the motorcycle had walked away from the scene towards the residential area nearby. Sheriff’s Office Deputies began to set up a perimeter with the assistance from the Clemson City Police and also began notifying security at The Pier Apartment Complex in order to secure the apartment complex with the assistance from the Clemson University Police Department.
As a K-9 officer and his handler began to work to track down the driver of the motorcycle, Deputies were notified that the driver, identified as Brown, Jr. was located in the area of Hydrangea Street and Geranium Street in an unfinished home by Clemson City Police Officers. Brown, Jr. advised law enforcement that he had been shot. Deputies applied a tourniquet to Brown, Jr’s leg due to an injury to his right foot.
Deputies also learned that Brown, Jr. was wanted by other agencies due to crimes committed in those jurisdictions. Brown, Jr. was transported to the hospital by paramedics for further treatment and evaluation.
The Criminal Investigations Bureau was also notified and an Investigator informed Brown, Jr. that he was under arrest. Brown, Jr. was treated and released from the hospital and then transported to jail.
During a search of Brown, Jr.’s clothes as part of the booking process, Detention Deputies located approximately 14.63 grams of Methamphetamine.
During the course of the investigation, Deputies learned that Brown, Jr. had met with a man who was selling his 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, valued at approximately $7,500.00. Brown, Jr. and the seller had met at a location near Seneca. During the course of the transaction, Brown, Jr. had asked if he could test drive the motorcycle. The seller advised Brown, Jr. that he could test drive upon proof that Brown, Jr. had money.
The seller stepped away to retrieve the money, upon which Brown, Jr. drove away. The seller pursued Brown, Jr. in another vehicle to the end of J.P. Stephens Road, where Brown, Jr. had wrecked the motorcycle.
The seller then told Deputies that Brown, Jr. ran towards him with what the seller believed was a weapon. The seller then drew a firearm and commanded Brown, Jr. to get on the ground. As Brown, Jr. continued to run toward the seller, the seller fired his weapon and Brown, Jr. fell to the ground and then walked away.
The seller was advised to go to another location. The seller drove to a nearby location to await law enforcement.
The seller of the motorcycle will not be charged in relation to his actions during the incident.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners with the Clemson City Police Department and the Clemson University Police Department for their help and assistance in our investigation.
