(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mountain Rest man and woman last Friday on charges related to a burglary investigation.

57 year old Julie Ann McCall and 56 year old Doyle Eugene McCall, Jr., both of Lisa Lane, were booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:06pm and 1:34pm respectively on August 1st

Julie McCall was charged with one count of Altering, Tampering or Bypassing a Utility Meter in regards to the burglary investigation.  She was also served with an outstanding arrest warrant on a charge of Theft of an Electric Current, which was obtained as part of a separate investigation.

Doyle McCall, Jr. was charged with one count each of First Degree Burglary, Entering Premises after Warning and Theft of an Electric Current as a result of the burglary investigation.

Last Friday morning, a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on Blueberry Lane, which is near Lisa Lane and Highway 107 in Mountain Rest, in reference to reports of the theft of an electrical current.  The Deputy met with the property owner, who stated that an electrical cable had been connected to his residence, which ran down through the woods towards Lisa Lane.

The Deputy then followed a trail through the woods to the Lisa Lane address, which is listed as the address for both McCall’s.  The Deputy attempted to make contact with occupants of the residence at the front door, but no one inside responded, as additional Deputies arrived on scene.

Julie McCall was taken into custody in the driveway of the residence and transported to jail.  Doyle McCall was located later during a search of the area by Deputies at an address on Green Valley Road and was transported to jail.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, it was determined that Doyle McCall had entered the property on Blueberry Lane which was clearly marked with no trespassing signs, broke into the Blueberry Lane residence at night, plugged a drop cord into an outlet of the home and then ran the cord to his home during the course of the burglary.

According to evidence obtained during the investigation, Julie McCall benefitted from the electricity that was being used by the cable being connected inside of the residence on Blueberry Lane.

At this time, Doyle McCall remains in jail on a combined $51,522.00 surety bond and he will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released from jail.

Julie McCall received a $1,087.50 personal recognizance bond on the Altering, Tampering or Bypassing a Utility Meter charge.  She also received a $1,087.50 surety bond on the Theft of the Utilities Current charge and she was released from jail today on that charge after posting bond.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
