Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Ninety-Six Woman on Drug Charges

Leila Nell Rushton

Bradley Scott Cantrell

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------A Ninety-Six, SC woman was arrested on two drug charges in an investigation that led to drug trafficking charges being filed against an Oconee County man last month.

35 year old Leila Nell Rushton, of Highway 248 south, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:45pm Monday on one count each of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Rushton was transported to Oconee County from the Greenwood County Detention Center by a deputy from the Warrants Division.

On October 27th, Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division went to an address on Cobb Trail Road near Westminster due to information that 39 year old Bradley Scott Cantrell was staying at that location and that stolen items were located on the property. Cantrell also had an outstanding Magistrates Bench Warrant.

Investigators made contact with Cantrell and Rushton at the incident location. After receiving word that the Bench Warrant was active, Cantrell ran from the investigators. After initially

resisting arrest, Cantrell was taken into custody. Rushton was released from the scene, at that time, by investigators due to lack of evidence.

Based on a subsequent investigation, investigators obtained search warrants for vehicles and a camper on the property. One of the search warrants was for a 2014 Nissan Altima, with Georgia tags, that was registered to Rushton.

Based upon evidence that was obtained by investigators, a trafficking weight of Methamphetamine and Heroin was seized by investigators, along with a quantity of a Controlled Substance (Alprazolam). A 1999 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Motorcycle, which was reported stolen to the Sheriff’s Office on July 24th, 2020, was also recovered, as well as a stolen Ruger 5.56 Rifle with a Scope.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, Cantrell was charged with two counts of Resisting Arrest and one count each of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Trafficking in Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Receiving Stolen Goods.

The search warrant on Rushton’s car produced a quantity of Methamphetamine and of Controlled Substances, which produced probable cause to obtain arrest warrants on Rushton.

At this time, Cantrell remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center. Cantrell received a combined $269,410.00 surety bond on the Sheriff’s Office charges.

Rushton was released from the Detention Center on November 16th on her own recognizance. Rushton received a combined $26,000.00 personal recognizance bond.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
