(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------An Oconee County man remains in jail today after his arrest on an outstanding arrest warrant charging him with drug trafficking for possessing over one-half pound of Methamphetamine.

36 year old James Henry Nix was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 2:17pm on Tuesday, May 5th.  Nix was arrested during a Warrant Service in Walhalla yesterday conducted by Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Bureau and a Deputy assigned to the Warrants Unit.  Nix was served with an outstanding General Sessions Bench Warrant as well as the warrant on the charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine.

On the evening of Friday, April 24th of this year, a Deputy assigned to the P.A.C.E. (Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement) Team, who was on routine patrol, observed a white male and a white female standing on the fog line of West-Oak Highway and Bruce Road near a black motorcycle.  The Deputy then turned her vehicle around in order to provide assistance as the motorcycle appeared to be broken down.

The Deputy then observed the white male run away and then came back toward the Deputy from some bushes with his hands up.  The Deputy spoke with the female and then observed that the male was gone.

The Deputy checked the area and requested other Deputies to respond for assistance, which included a K-9 handler along with his K-9 Deputy.  The male was not located; however, a camouflage bag was located on a bush that the male was near.

Inside of the bag was some identification, as well as approximately 249 grams of Methamphetamine.  Via the evidence obtained from the scene, the suspect was identified as James Henry Nix.  The motorcycle was towed away and the female was released from the scene.

After a consultation with a Judge, probable cause was established charging Nix with the drug trafficking charge.  Nix was given a $100,000 surety bond on the drug trafficking charge.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
