Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Walhalla Man on Kidnapping and Domestic Violence Charges

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------A Walhalla man was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center earlier this morning on charges of Kidnapping and Domestic Violence – First Degree.


39 year old James Tab Cogdill of Pickens Highway was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 7:58am today. He was taken into custody yesterday evening by deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division at his home address during a warrants service. At this time, Cogdill remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $25,000 surety bond.


Deputies were dispatched yesterday morning to a business on Pickens Highway in regards to a disturbance call between a man and a woman. Deputies made contact with the man, identified as Cogdill, in the parking lot. Deputies also made contact with the woman who had locked herself in the bathroom of the business.


The man was placed on trespass notice from the business and was released from the scene. The woman then came out of the bathroom, whereupon an investigation began into a reported incident that began late Monday evening.


During the investigation, deputies learned that the victim was assaulted at Cogdill’s residence and Cogdill would not allow her to leave, which also taking the victim’s phone. According to information provided to deputies, as the victim drove Cogdill to get some breakfast Wednesday morning, Cogdill began yelling at the victim.


The victim then reportedly pulled into the business parking lot, got out of the car, hid in the bathroom and contacted law enforcement with her cell phone that Cogdill threw at her.


Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained against Cogdill.
