(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today after his arrest overnight Wednesday on a charge of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
26 year old Jacob Miles Emerson was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 2:05am Wednesday. Emerson was also served an arrest warrant on a charge of Second Degree Burglary that was obtained by the Walhalla Police Department.
A School Resource Officer, who is assigned to a school in the School District of Oconee County, was notified by a family member on Tuesday of this week that she had not seen the minor, who is a teenager, since Sunday night, December 7th. The minor was in school on Monday, December 8th.
A missing person’s report was filed and the investigation was turned over to the Missing Person’s Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Information about the missing minor was entered into the National Crimes Information Center database.
Evidence obtained during the investigation indicated that the minor was engaged in a relationship with Emerson. Further evidence obtained indicated that Emerson and the minor were possibly out of state.
Early Wednesday morning, the minor and Emerson were located in Clemson. Emerson was placed in custody by a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau and transported to jail. The minor was transported back home.
According to evidence obtained during the investigation, Emerson prevented the minor from attending school and persuaded the minor to leave their home, and the state of South Carolina, without permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Emerson was given a $30,000 surety bond on the Second Degree Burglary charge and a Personal Recognizance bond on the Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor charge.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigations. In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and that of the minor involved, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, in any way, identify the minor involved in this investigation.
