(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today after being arrested yesterday evening on a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – First Degree.

22 year old Jacori Lemaine Brown was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 8:40pm Wednesday after turning himself in at the Law Enforcement Center in Walhalla.  Brown was denied bond during a bond hearing and will appear before a Circuit Court Judge, at a later time, regarding his bond.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on July 23rd of this year after a Violent Crimes Investigator from the Sheriff’s Office received word from an employee at Oconee Memorial Hospital of a reported sexual assault of a child.

The Investigator went to the Hospital and spoke with a family member of the victim.  The Investigator contacted the Department of Social Services and the child was placed in a safe environment.

The Investigator presented his evidence before a Judge and an arrest warrant was obtained against Brown.  Based upon evidence that was obtained during the investigation, it was determined that Brown sexually assaulted the victim by digital penetration.  The assault involved only one victim.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and that of the victim, who is a minor, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, either directly or indirectly, identify the victim in this investigation.
