(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today after his arrest Wednesday afternoon on charges related to a Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor investigation involving two separate victims.
42 year old Jonathan Matthew Tyler was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 4:45pm yesterday after being placed into custody during a Warrant Service by Deputies assigned to the Warrants Unit and the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement Team.
Tyler has been charged with four counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – 2nd Degree and one count of Assault with the Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree.
During an initial appearance before a Magistrate Judge, Tyler was denied bond on all of his charges. Tyler will appear before a Circuit Court Judge, at a later time, regarding his bond.
The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on December 12th of last year after a School Resource Officer was notified by an employee of a school in the School District of Oconee County of an incident involving a minor.
The SRO received information that the minor was inappropriately touched by Tyler on multiple occasions between August of 2025 and November of 2025. Based upon the time frame provided to the SRO, some of the incidents occurred when the minor was a child and some of the incidents occurred when the minor was a teenager.
Evidence obtained during this portion of the investigation led to the Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – Second Degree charges against Tyler for committing the sexual battery against the victim.
During the course of the investigation, evidence was obtained that indicated that Tyler had attempted to inappropriately touch a second victim, a child, in November of last year, which led to the Assault with the Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree charge.
The Department of Social Services was notified and the investigation was turned over to an Investigator assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. The Investigator obtained all the arrest warrant in the case.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and that of the two minor victims, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, in any way, identify the minor victims in this case.
