(Walhalla, SC)————————————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against three Seneca area residents, two men and one woman, in regards to multiple property crime investigations.
Yesterday, deputies arrested 25 year old Matthew Lane Carver of Laredo Drive in Seneca on a traffic stop yesterday near Seneca. Carver had outstanding arrest warrants on charges of Grand Larceny and Accessory after the Fact of a Felony. Carver was also cited for having an Open Container in a Motor Vehicle and was also served a West Union Municipal Bench Warrant.
The Grand Larceny arrest warrant against Matthew Carver stems from the theft of a 16’ x 8’ utility trailer from an address on Knox Road near Seneca on or about December 21st of last year.
The Accessory after the Fact of a Felony was obtained by Investigators against Matthew Carver for assistance he provided to his brother, 29 year old Andrew Lane Carver of Laredo Drive, and 23 year old Cayley Marie Hammond of Lanford Drive, in regards to a separate investigation regarding the theft of a 16’ dual axle Dovetail Trailer from a storage facility on Little Ponderosa Road near Seneca in December of last year.
Andrew Lane Carver and Cayley Marie Hammond were taken into custody on January 20th of this year and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center.
All told, Hammond has been charged by Investigators with six counts of Third Degree Burglary, six counts of Grand Larceny and two counts of Petit Larceny in regards to multiple property crime investigations. Cayley was charged with one count of Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent in a separate investigation.
In regards to those property crime investigations, Andrew Lane Carver has been charged by Investigators with one count of First Degree Burglary, six counts of Second Degree Burglary, six counts of Grand Larceny and two counts of Petit Larceny. According to arrest warrants, Andrew Carver has prior convictions for Burglary.
According to Investigators, Cayley Hammond and Andrew Carver entered storage buildings at locations on Corinth Drive, Sandifer Boulevard, Knox Road near Seneca and Burns Mill Road in West Union, as well as the enclosed fenced in area of the storage facility on Little Ponderosa Drive. During the break-ins, multiple items were stolen, including utility trailers, checks, tax returns, tools, a bicycle and electronic items.
According to arrest warrants, the crimes occurred at various times between September of 2021 and January of 2022.
Hammond and Andrew Carver were also charged by the Seneca Police Department with crimes committed in their jurisdiction.
At this time, Hammond remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $254,125.00 surety bond on all charges.
At this time, Andrew Lane Carver remains in custody at the Detention Center on a $222,000 surety bond on the Sheriff’s Office charges. Bond was denied on the charges from the Seneca Police Department and Carver will appear before a Circuit Court Judge at a later time regarding those charges. Carver will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released.
Also, Matthew Lane Carver remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center. Carver has received a combined $15,000 surety bond on the charges of Grand Larceny and Accessory after the Fact of a Felony.
