Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Charges Westminster Man with Three Trailer Thefts

James Joseph Haight

(Walhalla, SC)---------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Westminster man with three trailer thefts after his arrest yesterday.

The Sheriff’s Office has charged 48 year old James Joseph Haight of Meadowlark Drive with two counts of Grand Larceny and one count of Petit Larceny. Haight was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:38pm Tuesday. Haight also had an arrest warrant on a charge of Petit Larceny from the Westminster Police Department.

According to arrest warrants, Haight stole 5’x 9’ utility trailer from an address on Clearmont Road near Westminster sometime in early December of 2021.

Also in early December of last year, Haight stole a Top Hat Dump Trailer from an address on Hefner Road and S. Highway 11 near Walhalla.

Lastly, Haight has been charged with stealing a homemade utility trailer and three appliances from an address on Crossroads Drive in Seneca on or about December 27th of last year.

Investigators believe that Haight may be involved in some additional trailer thefts inside Oconee County. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has had a utility trailer stolen or anyone who may have bought a utility trailer from Haight.

At this time, Haight remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $17,000 surety bond on the Sheriff’s Office charges. Haight was given a $1,087.50 personal recognizance bond on the Westminster Police Department charge.

Anyone who has had a utility trailer theft or may have bought a utility trailer from 48 year old James Joseph Haight is asked to call Investigator Clay Sheriff with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-638-4111.
