Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Continues Padgett Street Homicide Investigation


(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation today into a homicide that occurred overnight on the Utica Mill Hill near Seneca.


Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division were dispatched around 11:50pm Tuesday to 14 Padgett Street in regards to initial reports of a disturbance. While deputies were responding to the scene, dispatch received reports of shots fired and an individual that was lying in the roadway.


When deputies arrived on scene to begin an investigation, they observed an adult male lying in the roadway who had sustained a gunshot wound. Deputies, as well as an officer from the Seneca Police Department and paramedics, attempted life saving measures on the victim, however, the victim died on scene.


As the investigation continued, investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division and the Oconee County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. The Coroner’s Office has identified the victim, in a press release, as 62 year old Richard Dennis Keese of Pendleton.


At this time, investigators are continuing to follow up on leads in this ongoing investigation.
