(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early Tuesday morning homicide near Seneca that resulted in the death of an adult male.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Singing Pines Road around 1:11am Tuesday. While heading to the scene, deputies were notified of shots being fired. When deputies arrived, they observed an individual laying in the yard.

Deputies began an investigation, which was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. The Oconee County Coroner’s Office also arrived on scene.

Based upon evidence that was gathered during the investigation, it was determined that a family dispute led to the shooting. The suspect, 26 year old Wayne Austin Raffaldt of Wolf Stake Church Road in Seneca, was arrested on scene and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 4:36am on a Temporary Custody Order. Arrest warrants for Raffaldt will be obtained later today by investigators.

Investigators determined that Raffaldt and another family member had driven to the incident scene and confronted the victim. The victim was shot by Raffaldt, according to investigators.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and no further details will be released at this time. An additional release will be issued later once the arrest warrants are obtained regarding official charges against Raffaldt.
