(Walhalla, SC)————————————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is in the early stages of an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred late this afternoon along Interstate 85 in the southern part of the county.
At around 5:30pm this afternoon, the E-911/ Communications Center received a call in reference to gunshots that were fired from a vehicle into another vehicle, on the interstate, that was occupied by two adults and two children. The shooting occurred on I-85 southbound between mile markers 1 and 2, which is between Highway 11 and Highway 59.
The adult female inside of the vehicle sustained injuries. According to early reports, the incident is being investigated as a possible road rage incident.
The victim was transported to the hospital via a medical helicopter. The investigation has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations/School Safety Bureau. A Crime Scene Technician was also been called to the scene.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation, which as mentioned is in the early stages. Due to the nature of the crime, and out of respect for health privacy and safety of the victim and her family, the victim’s name will not be released nor her condition nor the names of the other family members that were inside of the vehicle.
