Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Reports Inmate Death

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Oconee County Detention Center at around 5:31am Saturday morning in regards to reports of a cardiac arrest involving an inmate.  When the Deputies arrived, they discovered life saving measure being performed on the inmate by Detention Deputies.  The Detention Deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive while in the process of serving breakfast.

 

Paramedics were called to the scene.  An Investigator from the Criminal Investigations Bureau also responded to the Detention Center. 

 

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was also notified and responded to the Detention Center per standard protocol.  The investigation into the inmate’s death has been turned over to SLED.  Due to the investigation being referred to another agency, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any further information.
