Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Seeks the Public’s Help in Ongoing Shooting Investigation at Oconee Beach

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek the public’s help today in an ongoing investigation regarding a shooting that occurred at an Oconee beach last Thursday.

On the evening of July 3rd, Deputies responded to an address on Pickens Bend Range Drive, which is near Twin Lakes Camp Ground, in regards to a report of a shooting.  When Deputies arrived, a 19 year old male was being transported to the hospital due to receiving a gunshot wound to the back.

Deputies began an investigation and observed multiple pistol shell casing on the ground.  A Crime Scene investigator also responded to assist in the gathering of evidence.  The investigation was turned over to a Violent Crimes Investigator with the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

According to information obtained during the investigation, there were reports of an altercation with shots fired.

As the investigation has continued, additional evidence has been produced and collected which indicates that additional shots were fired at the scene other than what was previously reported.  The Investigator is seeking information from witnesses, including video that may have been recorded that day, to further corroborate that information and the identities of those involved.
