OCSO Arrests Westminster Man on Trafficking in Methamphetamine Charge – 2nd Offense

Bocephus Bentley

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man late last week, on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine – 2nd Offense, as the result of a traffic stop.

37 year old Bocephus Bentley of Heather Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 8:57pm last Thursday. Bentley was also served with two outstanding General Session Bench Warrants and an outstanding arrest warrant on a charge of Distribution of Methamphetamine.

A deputy from the P.A.C.E. (Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement) team, on routine patrol in the area of Toccoa Highway near Westminster last Thursday afternoon, initiated a traffic stop on a moped on Cornelia Avenue due to a traffic violation.

During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy received permission from Bentley to search the moped’s compartments, upon which the deputy discovered a backpack that contained some drug paraphernalia. As the investigation continued, Bentley told the deputy that he also had Methamphetamine. The narcotic was in a pill bottle that was located in Bentley’s pants pocket.

The pill bottle contained a baggy with a quantity of Methamphetamine inside. The outstanding warrants against Bentley were also confirmed and Bentley was placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. The moped was towed away from the scene.

The total weight of the Methamphetamine seized was approximately 10.91 grams.

The Distribution charge against Bentley was obtained due to Bentley distributing a quantity of Methamphetamine to an undercover operative, working at the direction of the Sheriff’s Office, in 2020.

At this time, Bentley remains in custody at the Detention Center. Bentley received a $50,000 surety bond on the Distribution of Methamphetamine charge and a $75,000 surety bond on the Trafficking in Methamphetamine charge.
