(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an active death investigation after a shooting incident was reported near Westminster.
Deputies were dispatched around 4:02pm this afternoon to an address on Breezewood Drive, which is near Poplar Springs Road. As deputies were heading to the scene, dispatch was advised that CPR was in progress. Investigators were also dispatched to the scene, along with the Crime Scene Unit and paramedics.
A patient was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound. The patient died this afternoon. A person of interest was detained at the scene.
At this time, based on evidence that has been gathered so far, Investigators believe that there was an altercation between two individuals.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and no further information will be released at this time. At this time, investigators do not believe that there is any danger to the public.
