OCSO Issues Release Regarding Wednesday Altercation at the Oconee County Detention Center

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw has requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate an altercation that occurred earlier today inside the Oconee County Detention Center.

No Detention Officers were involved in the incident that occurred. According to Captain Jeremy Chapman of the Detention Center, a preliminary investigation shows that the altercation occurred between two inmates inside of a cell, with one of the inmates receiving injuries that required transportation by EMS to the hospital after paramedics were called to the scene.

Out of health privacy and safety concerns, as well as an ongoing investigation by an outside agency, the Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any further information at this time, including any patient condition or the names of the two inmates who were involved in today’s incident.

“Even though none of our detention officers were involved in the incident, it is standard procedure to request an independent investigation from SLED on incidents of potential serious bodily injury involving inmates at our detention facility” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.
