Jason Heath Berry

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Piedmont, SC man remains in jail today, pending a bond hearing, after his arrest yesterday by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Receiving Stolen Goods.

45 year old Jason Heath Berry, of Griffin Road, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 8:32pm Tuesday.

An Investigator from the Property Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau spoke with the victim of a property crime yesterday after receiving word that the victim’s 2023 Griffin Dump trailer was located inside of Oconee County.  The victim had reported the Dump trailer stolen to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office yesterday morning.

Based on information obtained by an Investigator, the Dump trailer was located at an address on Richland Creek Drive near Westminster.  The Dump trailer was recovered and returned to the victim.  The Investigator was also able to obtain information about who was in possession of and had sold the stolen Dump trailer.

Based on additional information obtained during the investigation, Investigators were also able to identify the truck that the suspect in the case would be driving.  Additional Investigators from the Property Crimes Unit performed a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup on the Highway 123 by-pass yesterday afternoon.

During the traffic stop, Investigators made contact with the suspect and the driver of the truck who was identified as Berry.  Berry was taken into custody and was transported initially to the hospital for precautionary reasons due to becoming pale and sweaty.  Berry also granted consent for a search of the truck before it was towed from the scene of the traffic stop.

A search of the truck produced approximately 18.47 grams of Methamphetamine.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
