Sheriff Mike Crenshaw Issues Statement Regarding Cromer Moore Road Homicide Investigation

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------“It has been one week since the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office began a homicide investigation into the deaths of Larry and Sandra Moore.  I have spoken to some our citizens who have expressed concerns about the investigation, including the fact that no arrests have been made so far, as well as fears for the safety of their own family members and friends that may live in the area.”

“During the process of our investigation, and as mentioned previously in our news release last week, our Investigators believe that this is an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the public.”

“The investigation remains ongoing and our investigators are continuing to gather and process evidence and follow up on any leads that they receive.  In all investigations, we follow the evidence in relation to the effort of establishing probable cause in order to effect an arrest.  I want to thank our law enforcement partners with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for their assistance in processing evidence in our investigation.”

“We have also been in consultation with the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office throughout our investigation and also with the families of the victims in order to update them on our investigation.  We ask you to continue to remember the Moore family in your prayers during this difficult time.  At the request of the Moore family, they ask that you continue to respect their privacy.”

“While some investigations are resolved quickly, some require more time.  The ultimate goal in any investigation is to solve it and hold anyone responsible accountable for their actions in a court of law.  Therefore, great care is needed in not prematurely releasing more information than necessary which could harm that effort in a court of law.”
