(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A West Union man, recently arrested by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on a Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – Second Degree charge, was released last Wednesday, October 1st, to the custody of Immigration and Custom Enforcement Agents on a federal immigration charge.
Back on September 22nd of this year, 20 year old Wilson Nahun Figuero-Argueta was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on the outstanding arrest warrant and was given a $50,000 surety bond. Figuero-Argueta would have been required to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, upon his release from jail.
At the time of the reported incident back in 2022, Figuero-Argueta was 17 years old. According to Investigators, a juvenile who is charged with a Class A, B or C felony can be tried as an adult. The Investigator in the case also consulted with the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Figuero-Argueta was fingerprinted upon being booked into jail, which is standard procedure for anyone arrested and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center, regardless of immigration status. A check of Figuero-Argueta’s fingerprints by ICE revealed that he had an active federal warrant.
ICE placed a detainer on Figuero-Argueta. After a change in Figuero-Argueta’s bond from a surety bond to a personal recognizance bond, custody was transferred to ICE Agent’s at approximately 7am last Wednesday morning.
If Figuero-Argueta does return to the United States, he will face trial on the Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor charge that was obtained by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
