Westminster Man Arrested on Two Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – 1st Degree Charges

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today, after being denied bond, on two charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – 1st Degree. 

 

71 year old David Wayne Cooper, of Longcreek Highway, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 11:38am last Friday, July 12th.  Cooper will appear before a Circuit Court Judge, at a later time, regarding his bond.

 

The Sheriff’s Office investigation began on June 4th of this year after a family member of the victim filed a report in regards to reported criminal sexual conduct activity.  The investigation was turned over to an Investigator with the Violent Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

 

Based upon evidence that was obtained during the investigation, it was determined that Cooper touched the victim in a sexual manner between January 1st and June 4th of this year.  The incident only involved one victim. 

 

The arrest warrants were obtained after a presentation of the evidence by the Investigator to a Judge. 

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  Due to the nature of the crime, as well as protecting the integrity of the investigation and that of the minor victim, the Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, either directly or indirectly, identify the minor victim in this case.
