Applications Still Being Accepted for the Upcoming 8th Annual Citizens Police Academy



(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today that applications are still being accepted for the upcoming 8th Annual Citizens Police Academy.


The first class for the 8th Annual Citizens Police Academy is set for Tuesday, August 31st. The classes will meet for 12 consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings, and there will be one Saturday meeting for a SWAT demonstration, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 9th.

An opportunity for class members to participate in a short ride along with a deputy will be offered.


Applications are being accepted online at www.oconeelaw.com. From there, applicants will need to click on the Resources link, then click on the Internal Links and then the Find Out More link under the Citizens Police Academy.


Those who are selected will have a chance to meet the Command Staff and many of the deputies of the Sheriff’s Office. Some of the topics covered will be patrol operations, equipment and its uses, criminal investigations, E-911 communications, SWAT team operations, a judicial overview by one of the local judges, plus, information on detention and narcotics.


There is background check for those who submit applications and those applications and background checks will have to be approved before anyone can participate in the class. The Sheriff’s Office is hoping to reach demographics from every walk of life in Oconee County.


There is no cost for those who are selected for the “Citizens Police Academy.”
