(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail today, pending a bond hearing, after his arrest yesterday for sexually assaulting a minor, who is a teenager.

42 year old Timothy Reshawn Leland, of E. South 6th Street, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 11:37am Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on September 28th of this year after a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to Oconee Memorial Hospital after receiving a report that the minor had been sexually assaulted.

The investigation was turned over to a Violent Crimes Investigator assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

During the course of the investigation, evidence was obtained that Leland and the victim had been communicating on a social networking app.  On September 6th of this year, the victim picked up Leland at Leland’s residence in Seneca.  From there, the victim drove to the Poor Farm Lake Access in Walhalla, where the sexual assault occurred.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained against Leland on the Criminal Sexual Conduct charge.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and that of the victim, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could in any way, either directly or indirectly, identify the minor victim in this investigation.
