Oconee County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Awarded L.E.A.D. Instructor Award

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------Oconee County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Corporal Luke McCall was recently awarded with the South Carolina Instructor of the Year Award for his work with the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement against Drugs and Violence) program.

The Award was presented to Corporal McCall last week at the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.    

Corporal McCall has taught the L.E.A.D. program at his assigned school, Walhalla Middle School, since the 2024-25 school year.  In a May 22^nd news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, which announced students who had graduated from the curriculum during the last school year, Corporal McCall said that the L.E.A.D. program gives students the knowledge and skill to confidently navigate tough situations involving peer-pressure, drugs and violence.  Corporal McCall also said that the program is structured in a way that helps keep students interested while also promoting good dialogue and critical thinking skills.

“The program not only educates the students about the dangers of drugs and violence, but is also empowers them with the knowledge and skills to make good decisions, and boost their confidence, while also teaching them to learn the importance of self-respect and responsibility,” according to Corporal McCall in the May 22^nd news release.
