OCSO and School District of Oconee County Conclude Eighth Annual Boys Leadership Camp

(Walhalla, SC)------------------------------------- The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the School District of Oconee County concluded the eighth annual Boys Leadership Camp last Friday with a graduation ceremony.

23 students were recognized at the graduation ceremony, which took place in the Walhalla Middle School Auditorium. The graduation ceremony took place after a lunch was served to those in attendance, and was conducted in front of the family members of the graduates.

The graduates received a certificate, a medal and a challenge coin during the ceremony. 16 male School Resource Officers were the leaders of the camp, along with Evie Hughes, Director of Student Services for the School District of Oconee County and Lt. Mark Lyles, Supervisor of the SRO’s for the Sheriff’s Office.

Both Lt. Lyles and Mrs. Hughes said after the graduation that a main focus of this year’s camp was the building of teamwork skills among those who participated. Lt. Lyles felt that this was the best Boys Leadership Camp, so far, and Mrs. Hughes echoed those sentiments.

“This is the eighth year that we have had our camp and I think (the Camp) gets better and better each year,” said Mrs. Hughes. “This year, we really focused on team building skills, and this particular group of boys really came together as a group. As the week went along, the boys really matured and did an outstanding job.”
