(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail this evening, on a combined $12,125.00 surety bond, after his arrest yesterday on a charge of First Degree Burglary.

22 year old Kyle William Shumsky, of Sugarhill Road, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 1:19pm Thursday by a Deputy assigned to the Warrants Unit.  Shumsky was also charged with one count of Larceny of a Bicycle in relation to the same investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation after a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded on the morning of June 9th of this year in reference to a suspicious persons call.  The Deputy received information that a white male rang a doorbell to the residence and asked one of the homeowners about a stolen ATV.  The male then left the scene in a dark in color SUV.

During the course of the investigation, the Deputy learned that a door below the rear porch of the residence was open.  Further investigation revealed that a Specialized Hardrock bicycle, valued at approximately $400, was stolen.

The investigation was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.  While conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident on Petty Road the same day as the crime was reported, Investigators observed a white male, identified as Shumsky, on a bicycle.  After further investigation, it was determined that Shumsky had stolen the bicycle from the residence on Petty Road.  Shumsky was also identified as the person who rang the doorbell at the Petty Road residence earlier this morning.

The bicycle was recovered and returned to the owners.  Investigators also met with a Judge, and a determination was made that probable cause existed to charge Shumsky with the burglary and theft.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
