(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Central, SC teenager remains in jail today, on a $2,000 surety bond, after her arrest yesterday on a charge of Disturbing Schools.

18 year old Keylee Ray Sammons was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 7:20pm Tuesday.  Sammons will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should she be released from jail.

A School Resource Officer assigned to West-Oak High School was notified yesterday morning of a potential school threat that was made the previous night, which involved a female who lived in Pickens County.  The female reportedly made a threat to shoot up West-Oak High via a Snapchat thread to two students from the school.

The School Resource Officer, along with a member of the school administration, conducted an immediate investigation into the threat.  At no time were students in danger due to the swift action of law enforcement and school administration.  Based upon information obtained during the investigation, the individual who made the threat was identified as Sammons.

The School Resource Officer contacted the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and a Deputy from Pickens County made contact with Sammons.  The School Resource Officer also spoke with Sammons as well.

After the consulting with a Judge, probable cause was met to charge Sammons with Disturbing Schools.

“This incident demonstrates the importance of having School Resource Officers in every school in the School District of Oconee County, along with the importance of the SRO and the administrators of each school working closely together,” according to Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.  “I am grateful for the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office, the School District and Oconee County Council that made having an SRO in every school in the School District a priority many years ago and we see the fruits of that effort every day in the protection of students, faculty and staff.”

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reminds students to report any threats to schools immediately to a teacher, member of the administration of a school or a School Resource Officer.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in our investigation.
