(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Columbia, SC man over the weekend on a charge of Kidnapping as a result of a welfare check on an adult female, who was the victim.

25 year old Tevon Demarcio Durham, of Wilkinson Drive, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 4:51pm on Saturday, June 27th.  Durham, who has an address on Jacobs Road near Seneca that is listed on the arrest warrants, was also charged by the Sheriff’s Office with one count of Domestic Violence – 1st Degree.

Durham was given a combined $50,000 dollar surety bond on both charges.  Durham will be required to wear an ankle monitor, as a condition of bond, upon release from jail.

Deputies assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded this past Saturday afternoon to an apartment on Jacobs Road in reference to a welfare check on an adult female.  The welfare check was requested by a third party.  When Deputies arrived to make contact, Deputies heard an argument inside of the apartment.  The adult female answered the door and told Deputies that an argument had been going on.

Deputies also made contact with an adult male, identified as Durham.  As Deputies began an investigation, they were told that Durham had used his body to block the doorway to a bedroom inside, not allowing the adult female to leave.  Deputies also learned that Durham would grab and hold the victim in his arms, not allowing her to leave the bedroom.

Evidence obtained during the investigation indicated that Durham had taken the victim’s phone to prevent the victim from calling law enforcement.

Durham was placed under arrest and transported to jail.  After a consultation with a Judge and a presentation of the evidence, arrest warrants were obtained against Durham on the Kidnapping and Domestic Violence charges.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
