Austin Stephen Lawless
(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today, on a $10,000 surety bond, after his arrest over the weekend on a charge of Arson-Second Degree.
29 year old Austin Stephen Lawless, of West-Oak Highway, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 4:24pm Saturday.
A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to a business location on Sandifer Boulevard late in the morning of June 10th due to reports of a dumpster fire that reportedly may have been set intentionally. After arriving on scene, the deputy made contact with Lawless, who was standing in front of the business.
Lawless told the deputy that he was there at the business to purchase some oil for his moped. He also told the deputy that he went to other nearby businesses to inquire about a job.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were called to the scene. Based upon evidence that was obtained during the investigation, Lawless was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
According to the arrest warrant that was obtained, Lawless is charged with setting fire to the dumpster and fence at the business location, which caused damage to the dumpster, fence and the HVAC system.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
