Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Holds October 2023 Promotions Ceremony







(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office held a promotions ceremony on October 17th to honor and recognize promotions in the Uniform Patrol Bureau and the Oconee County Detention Center. During the ceremony, three Deputies were awarded Life Saving Awards and Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw swore in K-9 Officer Sully, the first Therapy dog in the history of the Sheriff’s Office.


The following Uniform Patrol Bureau Deputies was recognized for promotion:


Lieutenant Tommy Crompton – Promoted from Lieutenant in the Special Operations Bureau to Captain of the Uniform Patrol Bureau


First Sergeant James Young – Alpha Shift - Promoted to Lieutenant in the Uniform Patrol Bureau


Sergeant Jake Spence – Promoted from Sergeant in the Special Operations Bureau to First Sergeant – Alpha Shift - Uniform Patrol Bureau


Master Patrol Deputy Tyler Illian – Promoted to Corporal – Charlie Shift


Deputy Thomas Chapman – Promoted to Master Patrol Deputy – Charlie Shift


The following Detention Deputy was recognized for Promotion:

Katie Sipes – Promoted to Booking Sergeant – Oconee County Detention Center


The following Deputies were recognized for Life Saving Awards:


Lieutenant John Crum – Civil Division – Lt. Crum was recognized for reporting, responding and assisting in the evacuation of residents from apartments during a fire at Clemson Ridge Apartments in Seneca on September 12th, 2023


Captain Jimmy Dixon and Sergeant Adam Logan – Criminal Investigations Bureau – Captain Dixon and Sergeant Logan were recognized for assisting and clearing the airway of a citizen who was choking on food at the intersection of Sandifer Boulevard and Blue Ridge Boulevard, at the Miracle Circle intersection, in Seneca on October 12th, 2023.


Also, K-9 Officer Sully was given the oath of office by Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and has become the first Therapy K-9 officer in the history of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. K-9 Officer Sully’s handler is Deputy Katrina Carter, who is a Victim Advocate. K-9 Officer Sully’s breed is a Goldendoodle. K-9 Officer Sully was donated to the Sheriff’s Office, through the Oconee County (SC) Sheriff’s Foundation, by Jessica Henson in honor and memory of the late 10th Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams.
