Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests a Seneca Man on Drug Trafficking and Stolen Gun Charges

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------A search warrant execution yesterday near Seneca, in relation to stolen property, led Investigators to a discovery of narcotics and stolen firearms from a neighboring Upstate county.


Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Bureau executed the search warrant at an address on Friendship Road Tuesday afternoon. The search warrant was obtained in relation to a separate investigation involving a stolen dirt bike.


During the execution of the search warrant, the dirt bike was not located. However, Investigators did discover 140 grams of Methamphetamine belonging to 41 year old Christopher Terry Cox, who resides at the Friendship Road address. Investigators also seized multiple firearms and ammunition.


Further investigation revealed that two of the firearms, both handguns, had been reported stolen. One handgun was reported stolen out of Greenville County while the other handgun was reported stolen to the Greenville City Police Department.


As a result of the search warrant, Investigators also located a quantity of Methamphetamine and prescription drugs in the purse of a second individual who was on scene, 43 year old Kelly Denise Butts of Westminster.


Butts and Cox were transported to the Oconee County Detention Center and booked into jail at around 5:53pm and 5:54pm respectively.


Cox has been charged with one count each of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Receiving Stolen Goods and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime. Butts has been charged with one count each of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Controlled Substance.


At this time, both subjects remain in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center pending bond hearings. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
