Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Mountain Rest Man on First Degree Burglary Charge

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------A Mountain Rest man remains in custody today, at the Oconee County Detention Center, on multiple charges after deputies responded to a burglary call over the weekend.


56 year old David Wayne Elliott, of Highway 107, received a combined $64,300.00 surety bond on charges of First Degree Burglary, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Assault and Battery – 3rd Degree, Malicious Injury to Property and Breach of Peace.


A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on Old Hurricane Road, near the Holly Springs Community, early Sunday morning. When the deputy arrived on scene, he was told that Elliott had locked himself inside of the residence and was making threats to harm the homeowners.


The deputy made contact with Elliott, who refused to come out of the residence and was screaming and yelling. After being allowed entry into the home by the homeowners, the Deputy placed Elliott under arrest. A search of Elliott’s person produced a quantity of a controlled substance (Tramadol).


During the investigation, deputies discovered damage to a window of the residence and to a door frame.


According to the arrest warrants, Elliott entered the residence at night, without consent and with the intent to commit a crime.
