Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Attempted Murder Charge

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------An investigation into a Wednesday evening shooting on Mormon Church Road near Seneca led to the arrest of a Seneca man earlier this morning on an Attempted Murder charge.


24 year old Deron Larry Young II of Laing Court was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 3:01am. Young II was taken into custody earlier this morning in Central, SC and transported back to Oconee County by a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division.


Young was booked into the jail on a Temporary Custody Order until arrest warrants were obtained today. Young is also charged with Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.


Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division were dispatched around 8:48pm Wednesday evening to Mormon Church Road in reference to a shooting incident in which an adult male victim was reportedly lying in the road. Deputies also received word of a black suspect vehicle that had left the scene.


When deputies arrived, they discovered the victim lying on the side of Mormon Church Road. Deputies also began to administer first aid to the victim due to a gunshot wound to his leg. Paramedics also responded to the scene to continue treatment and transport of the victim to the hospital.


Deputies began an investigation and that scene was turned over to investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division. Officers from the Seneca Police Department also responded to offer assistance at the scene.


The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Due to health privacy and safety concerns, no information about the victim or his condition will be released.
