(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca man was arrested this week on a weapons charge as a result of a Warrant Service.

36 year old Dewayne Dean Hendershot, of Britton Drive, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 2pm on Wednesday.  The weapons charge against Hendershot was obtained by a Deputy assigned to the Warrants Unit of the Sheriff’s Office.

Hendershot was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the Britton Drive address during the Warrant Service that was conducted by the US Marshals Service, with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit.  The Warrant Service was due to Hendershot being a wanted fugitive from the state of Iowa due to a Parole Violation.  After his arrest, a search of Hendershot’s person produced a 9mm handgun.

Hendershot was reportedly on parole in Iowa for Armed Robbery and Burglary convictions.  Based upon Hendershot’s violent crime history, an arrest warrant was obtained against Hendershot on a charge of Possession of a Handgun by Person’s Convicted of Certain Crimes.

At this time, Hendershot remains in jail.  Hendershot was given a $5,000 surety bond on the arrest warrant.  Hendershot will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released from jail.

A hold has also been placed on Hendershot by the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa.
